Today I spent the morning playing cake and fondant with some lovely ladies. I still get little butterflies before I teach a class. I wonder if this will ever go? I enjoy teaching so much, I would love to do more. I love talking cake and all things decorating. Today’s course was Springtime Funtime. It’s all about making pretty bugs and insects using fondant! And of course learning some cool piping techniques, such as the “poo” swirl (my kids named it that sorry :-0), the rose swirl, the ruffle, the ocean, and the popular grass one! I love teaching people who’ve sometimes never piped or even touched fondant and then watching them walk out with their amazing set of cupcakes. Truly rewarding. It’s funny, how students come in saying “oh I can’t” or “I’m not sure I can”, but they can. It’s so easy, really, it’s all about practicing and playing. If you don’t succeed try and try again Failure is my way of learning! I took some pics from today’s course, you’ll have to excuse the quality I took them on my phone.

Mickey Thompson Tyre!!

Sometimes when you’re making cakes for customers you learn things that you might not necessarily think you would. For instance I learnt that Mickey Thompson is a brand for tyres and that racing slicks don’t have tread!! That was probably the big one hehehehe. So a tyre is not just a tyre when someone asks for one, must remember that next time! Cathie asked me to recreate a Mickey Thompson tyre for her husband who celebrated his 40th birthday over the weekend. He’s an avid drag racing fan. I don’t often get to make cakes for men so I do enjoy the moment while it lasts.

Vintage Pearl

I recently made this cake for a lovely customer of mine, who I’ve made a few cakes in the past for. She has a particular style that she tends to stick with, vintage, chic, pinks and white. Not a bad theme at all if you ask me! I do love this style. As a decorator there are so many new trends and even old trends that I want to try and it’s either finding the time to do it, just because (which is never going to happen hehehehe) or waiting for the right customer to come along so you can pitch your idea to. Luckily for me the customer liked my idea. I know this style of cake has been done before, so it’s not original, but the fact I got to play out my cake fantasy with a new technique was pretty cool With nearly 10 meters of edible pearls this cake came out better than what I had hoped. I loved the end result and I was even happy with the way my flowers turned out.

Introducing Dave & Angela

I’ve said it before about Angela and Dave, but I’ll never forget the first time I met them, they walked in & the only thing I could see was this massive oversized scrap book that Angela was holding. In my head I’m thinking “here we go”!! But contrary to “the book”, Angela & Dave, will be a couple that I won’t forget in a hurry, just beautiful. They new exactly what they wanted, without being over the top about it, so nice. Everything about their wedding screamed elegant and classic. The venue was stunning, I loved it all. Here’s some pictures that Angela & Dave have kindly allowed me to share, gorgeous. Congratulations Angela & Dave, thank you so much for allowing me to create for you xo

A very last minute order for one of my most loveliest customers aka my newly adopted sister Stacey!! Under the pump this week as it was, but how could I say know when Stacey’s daugther rang me herself, if I’d said no I reckon I would of literally broken her heart! Miss Madi was desperate for some cuppies for her lovely mum who always gets Happy Cakes for everyone else. I kinda wished I’d had more time to create something spectacular with the cool theme that Madi wanted, Smurfs!! Happy Birthday Miss Stacey, hope you enjoyed your cakes xo P.S I hope I don’t get an in flux of calls from daughters wanting last minute cakes for their mums hehehehehe.

Ben The Ring Man Marries His Gal!!

Jungle Theme!

I made this cake for little Blake who celebrated his first birthday, Jungle style! This little cake took a plane ride all the way out to Mt Isa eeek. I always get nervous in these situations hehehehe. Happy birthday Blake, hope you had a great day.

Two little blue birds…..

This cake was for the lovely Terese and her now new husband Lucas who were married recently. I had a lot of fun with this cake, a little variation to a traditional plain wedding cake but still very elegant. Had fun with the two tones, you could seriously go to town with this technique!! Hint Hint Brides Toppers were provided by Terese. Congratulations to you both.
